Introduction of Oxicrete
Oxicrete is used to apply on various cementitious surface. It is an acidic process and gives rough stone appearance.
It provides uniform and smooth final finished surface. Thickness of coat is normally ranges between 3 to 5 mm. It is also applied to repair old concrete surface. Cost of Oxicrete is very moderate.
Surface Preparation for Oxicrete
- The surface shall be prepared by grinding or mild vacuum spraying. Improper surface preparation can lead to poor adhesion and deterioration of the Oxycret coating.
- New concrete surfaces must have a tensile strength of at least 1.5 MPa and must be free from cement mortar, surface sealant or hard film.
- The old concrete surface should not have loose residue, dirt, grease. Visual inspection should confirm that the surface has been properly cleaned and undamaged.
Suitable Conditions for Applying Oxicrete
- Ambient temperature, material temperature and substrate temperature should be between 15 and 30 oC.
- Keep Oxycrete ingredients in a cool place.
- Before applying Oxycrete and for at least 48 hours after application, the floor temperature should be maintained at least 3°C above the dew point to avoid condensation and efflorescence.
Placement Procedure
- A nominal thickness of 1 mm of Oxycrete is applied as a scratch coat and cured at a temperature of approximately 20 oC for up to 48 hours.
- If the maximum cure time is exceeded, the layer should be sanded and another layer applied.
- Then pour the oxycrete mixture over the area and use a notched trowel to achieve the desired opacity.
- The surface should be protected from moisture and condensation, and we recommend watering for at least 4 days.
Curing Process of Oxicrete
Oxycrete curing time will vary depending on application and ambient temperature. For example, it takes seven days for a surface to be fully chemically resistant and ready for use in high traffic areas.
However, it takes 12 hours for walking, 24 hours for light cycling and 48 hours for medium cycling.
Uses
- Oxycrete can be used in any form.
- It can be used indoors and outdoors in residential and commercial buildings.
- Oxycrete is applied to colored concrete. A great way to refresh old finishes.
Advantages
- Oxicrete is tough and highly resistant to damage.
- Easy to apply.
- Oxicrete surfaces are easy to clean.
- Oxicrete surface color does not fade over time. There are multiple tones.
Conclusion
Oxicrete is used as final finished surface. It is not used to pour structural members such as beam and columns.
