What is Lava?

In this article, I will discuss about lava which is related to the molten rock.

Introductin of Lava

Molten rock which is expelled from the surface of earth is known as lava. Lava can erupt from volcanoes or from fissures in the earth’s crust, on land or in water, and typically occurs at temperatures between 800 and 1,200°C. Volcanic rocks created by subsequent cooling are often called lavas.

Particles of liquid molten rock can fly miles away. These particles can cause air pollution. Gases such as H2S can be very dangerous for human health.

See the below image of molten rock.

A lava flow is an outflow of molten rock material from an eruption. Most lava has a viscosity similar to that of ketchup, about 10,000 to 100,000 times that of water.

Lava exposed to air rapidly develops a hard crust that insulates the remaining liquid lava and helps keep it hot and thin enough to continue to flow, so the lava is cooled before it solidifies. It can travel long distances.

Lava is the source of geothermal energy. This geothermal energy can be utilized to generate electrical energy. In this way, lava can be very useful.
