What Is Sectional View?
A sectional view is a type of view that displays the internal details of an object. It is often used to provide a clear view of the interior construction of a part, which may not be apparent from external views that rely on hidden lines.
This type of view is created by imagining a cut through the object and removing a portion, allowing the viewer to see inside the object more clearly. In summary, a sectional view is a useful tool for revealing the inner workings of an object that might not be evident from external views alone.

Cutting Plane of An Object
A cutting plane is a theoretical plane that is not visible in physical form but is represented in engineering drawings. It is used to create a sectional view that would not be visible in reality, allowing for a perspective on a building or room as if a portion of it had been removed.
The location of the cutting plane is indicated by a cutting plane line, typically consisting of long dashes separated by two shorter ones. This line shows where the building or object has been sliced away to reveal the internal components, and it helps to visualize the structural design.
Types Of Sectional Views
A full section is the most common section type, showing a view of a portion of the building with the rest of it put to one side.
A half section only cuts away half of the space or object, allowing you to see part of it in elevation, while the other part gives a glimpse inside.
An offset section has a cutting plane that doesn’t follow a straight line, which is useful when showing sections of multiple rooms located behind each other.
Broken out sections show only a small portion of the object or space in section, indicated by an irregular cut line.
Revolving sections show a space or detail with a cutting plane at an angle, then rotated so the cutting plane faces the viewer.
Removed section shows only a portion of the drawing in section, removed to the side with a different scale, providing a more detailed perspective.
