Introduction of Power Plant Engineering
In this article we will discuss about power plant engineering and fundamental concept of power generation.
This is important topic to understand the basic principles to produce electricity through various means.
This topic helps the electrical and mechanical engineers or power manufacturing company to understand the basic of electricity generation through various means.
This is very important diagram to understand the principal of power generation. The electrical conducter may be rotated through various means like steam, through gases, diesel fuels, petrol fuels etc. When electrical conducter placed between these magnetic poles (N, S) then through this rotation it produce Magnetic flux which produce electricity. Electricity is then collected through R, Y, B.
Now I will describe here the type of power plant and power generation device.
Types of Power Plants and Power Generation Devices
1. AC Generator
AC generator produce electricity by moving armature through using diesel fuel, gasoline, propane and natural gas.
2. Coal Fired Thermal Power Plant
This power plant is used heat energy into mechanical energy then converted into electrical energy by generator. Steam turbine is worked for rotating the generator shaft by utilizing steam energy which is generated inside boiler and supplied in steam turbine through pipes. The main part of steam turbine are Boiler, pump, turbine and condenser.
This type of thermal power plant worked based on Rankine Cycle.
3. Combined Cycle power plant
In this type of power plant we used steam and gas turbine to rotate or start up the generator combind. The generator is located between steam and gas turbine. The waste energy from the gas turbine cycle is used to generate steam in HRSG boiler which further rotate the steam turbine. This is very useful to generate electricity in modern civilization.
4. Nuclear Power Plant
A nuclear power plant is a thermal power plant whose heat source is a nuclear reactor. Similar to a typical thermal power plant, the heat is used to produce steam that drives a steam turbine and is connected to a generator to generate electricity.
5. Wind Power Plant
Wind power generation is power generation that converts wind energy into electrical energy. Wind generators absorb wind energy with specially designed blades and convert wind energy into mechanical energy. This will further drive the generator and convert the wind energy into electrical energy.
6. Solar Power Plant
Solar panel is used to produce electricity. In modern civilization it is very useful source of energy. Nowadays in market the various type of solar appliances is available like solar light, solar pump, solar refrigerators and AC. Solar building is very useful.
7. Hydro Power Plant
This type of power plant used by developing dam and then water is used to rotate the turbine blades.
8. Geothermal Power Plant
Geothermal energy is electrical energy produced from the heat of the earth. Technologies used include dry steam power plants, flash steam power plants, and binary cycle power plants.
