Did you ever thought “Can I Put Water In My Radiator”.
Most of the car owners have this question. Because normally special liquid called coolant is used in the radiator.
In this blog article, I will try to answer your question.
Let’s Start!
Yes, it is generally safe to pour water into a radiator. To maintain the engine at proper operating temperature and prevent overheating, the radiator is made to contain and circulate the water and coolant mixture. You can add water to your radiator as a plain water, but if you have access to it, it’s ideal to mix water and coolant in the ratio of 50 by 50.
Make sure the car is cool and the engine is off before pouring water into the radiator. Radiator filling cap should be found. This is usually the large circular cap with a cross or plus sign on top of the radiator. Carefully remove the cap by turning it counterclockwise. Once the fluid level in the radiator reaches the full mark on the radiator neck or overflow tank, slowly add water to the radiator. Avoid overfilling the cooler as this can lead to overflow and other problems. After adding required amount of water, tighten the filler cap by turning it clockwise.
It is important to remember that using purified water in radiators is only a temporary fix and should not be used in place of antifreeze or coolant long term. Water can cause the engine to overheat because it has a lower melting point than antifreeze, especially when used frequently or in hot weather. A mixture of water and antifreeze is essential to keeping your engine safe and running smoothly because water does not provide as much corrosion protection as coolant.
I would suggest, use water only in emergency. If you put water in radiator more frequently, it will effect overall performance of the engine.
