Quantity Estimation Of Cement and Sand in Mortar

In this article, I have discussed Quantity Estimation Of Cement and Sand in Mortar.

How to Calculate Quantity Estimation Of Cement and Sand in Mortar:

Quantity Estimation Of Cement and Sand in Mortar needed for Rate Analysis of Brickwork, Blockwork, Plastering, or Masonry work in the field of Construction. Mortar is used in different proportions like 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6 etc.

For the Calculation of Cement and Sand in Mortar, we will assume that we will use a total of 1m3 mortar. In this 1 m3 of mortar, we will find a separate quantity of Cement and Sand.

Due to the low density of Sand, voids are present in the sand. So Considering voids in the sand, we will assume that material consists of 60 % voids. So instead of 1 m3 mortar, we will take 1.6 m3 mortar.

We need 1 m3 wet mortar.

So considering 60 % void we will take 1,6 m3 dry material.
Let’s Calculate the volume of Cement and Sand in mortar.

At the starting of this article, we already describe Mortar is used in different proportions like 1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4, 1:5, 1:6, etc.
Let’s assume the proportion of cement and sand in mortar is 1:X.
where X is the required volume of sand

The total volume of Sand needed for a 1:X proportion of 1 m3 cement mortar will be
= 1.6*X/1+X

The volume of cement can be calculated as
=1*1.6/1+x

As we know, the volume of 1 bag of cement is 0.0347 m3.

so the number of bags of cement will be calculated by dividing 0.0347.

No of cement bag = ( 1*1.6/1+x )/ 0.0347

For a more clear picture of this article, we will understand it by an example.

cement mortar ratio = 1:6

Sand Quantity = 1.66/(1+6) = 1.371 m3

Cement Quantity = 1.61/6 = 0.22857 m3

Cement Quantity ( In Bgs ) = 0.22857/0.0347 = 6.58 Bags
