Stones aggregates of 10 mm to 12.5 mm are put in cylinder. Stone aggregates are filled in 3 equal layers.

Each layer is tamped 25 times. Afterthat, stone aggregates is transferred to the cup and again tamped 25 times.

The hammer is then allowed to fall freely on the sample 15 times. The sample is then sieved through a 2.36 mm sieve.

Impact value can be calculated as;

Impact value = W2/W1

Where,

W2 = weight of fines.

W1 = original weight

The recommended impact values for various functions are listed below:

  1. For wearing course > 30%
  2. For bituminous machadam > 35%
  3. For water bound machadam > 40%

Conclusion

This was aggregate impact test. You should do this test practically in the lab to understand better.
